Noney, August 10 2024:
The indefinite bandh called by Affected Land Owners Committee Longmai (CALA) along NH-37 and boycott of all national project works has been called off with immediate effect.
The decision comes after an understanding was reached between local MLA Dinganglung Gangmei, who is also chairman of Hill Areas Committee (HAC), and leaders of the agitators.
The local MLA assured the committee members that a joint meeting with the chief minister would be held on August 15 in Imphal to resolve the issues.
CALA chairman Wilson Kamei stated that if the government fails to address their demands in the upcoming meeting, they will resume the bandh.
With the bandh lifted, normal vehicular movement resumed along this route.
Earlier, normal life was paralysed in Noney district headquarters due to the bandh.
The indefinite bandh was initiated by CALA from Friday midnight in protest against non-payment of compensation by the government for the lands acquired and properties affected by widening of the NH-37.Bandh supporters blocked the road and burnt tires, disrupting all types of vehicular traffic.
However, essential services, including electricity, water supply, medical services, telecom, media, and religious activities, were exempted from the bandh.
