Mass tree plantation drive conducted

In an initiative aimed at environmental conservation, Assam Rifles in collaboration with local village authorities organised a mass tree plantation drive at Wanglee village, Kamjong district.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the event is part of the AR's ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and raise awareness within the community, particularly among the youth, regarding the importance of forest conservation.
Manipur is richly endowed with natural resources and extensive forest cover, however, it faces significant threats from illegal timber trade and deforestation, which have led to environmental degradation.
The plantation drive specifically targeted local youth and school students, underlining the urgency of preserving forests and safeguarding natural resources for future generations, it emphasised.
The release also stated that a total of 25 locals participated in the drive, including four representatives from the Wanglee Village Council.
The day began with a warm welcome and an informal interaction with AR officials, who stressed on the critical role of forest conservation in maintaining ecological balance and supporting local livelihoods, it added.
The release further mentioned that together, they planted 250 saplings in public areas and along the Wanglee-Kasong road, marking a collective effort to rejuvenate the local environment, while adding that the participants also joined AR personnel in a clean-up drive of the village and its surroundings.
