Areca nuts worth ₹2.5 crore seized

Imphal, August 31 2024: In two separate operations on Friday, Assam Rifles seized areca nuts worth approximately Rs 2.5 crore in Machi and Khampang Khullen, near to Sita village, Tengnoupal district.

During area domination patrols, AR teams from Modi and Tengnoupal stopped suspicious vehicles.

Thorough searches led to the recovery of 12,000 kg and 16,200 kg of areca nuts, respectively.

The value of the seized items is approximately Rs 2.5 crore, and they have been handed over to the customs department, a release by PRO IGAR(S) informed.

Six individuals were apprehended in both the operations and have been handed over to Machi and Tengnoupal police stations for further legal proceedings, it added.
