Imphal, October 05 2021:
Manipur State Shumang Leela Council has expressed dissatisfaction over the decision of Manipur State Kala Akademi to combine presentation of its annual award (Young Talent, Akademi Award and Fellow) for the past 2019, 2020 and 2021 into a single year.
According a statement released by Council secretary Y Nilachandra, the Akademi confers Young Talent, Akademi Award and Fellow every year to encourage artistes in the field of theatre, song and different art forms.
However, its recent decision to combine the last 3 years (2018, 2019 and 2020) and confer the award for a single year is unfortunate and unacceptable.
The statement continued that the Akademi's decision is putting more burdens upon the artistes who are already suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
As such, the Council urged for conferring the awards for the three years separately.
If there is any financial constraint, the award for 2018 could be distributed first, followed by the remaining two years.
However, if the Akademi refuses to retract its decision, the Council will boycott the awards, it declared.
