Imphal, November 15 2022:
Denouncing the thrashing of a woman street vendor named Apabi and arresting her by City police without any evidence, All Manipur Muslims' Organisation Co-ordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), Pangal Street Vendors' Association (PSVA) and United Manipur Muslim Women's Development Organisation (UMMWDO) along with like-minded organisations carried out protest by shouting slogans in front of AMMOCOC office, Hatta, here, on Tuesday.
Speaking on the sidelines on the protest, UMMWDO president Anwari Noorjahan condemned beating of Apabi, an innocent street vendor and arresting her without considering the validity of the complaint lodged.
She recalled the demand made to state government and authorities concerned for identifying the police person nel and others involved in the incident and processing exemplary punishment to them.
However, the government failed to honour the demands till date clearly testifying government's ill-treatment towards street vendors, she contended, while demanding to stop harassment of street vendors.
She also cautioned of launching more intense democratic protest if justice is not delivered to street vendor Apabi.
