Peace talk would be self defeating : RPF

Imphal, September 24 2011: On the occasion of the PLA�s 33rd raising day, RPF president Irengbam Chaoren has conveyed deepest respect to all the people while also saluting all the martyrs who laid down their lives in the course of the revolutionary movement.

In a press statement, the RPF president categorically stated that going for peace talks with New Delhi in the present situation would be self-defeating.

Peace talks currently going on between New Delhi and different revolutionary organisations of the region are all under the Indian Constitution.

Such peace talks held in the past could not bring any lasting solution.

Similarly the peace talks currently in process are most unlikely to arrive at any durable solution.

Nevertheless, Govt of India has been utilising peace talks most craftily as an effective tool to suppress revolutionary movements.

As such, many revolutionary groups which otherwise could not be suppressed by the Indian military have been subdued by means of peace talks, while many revolutionary groups have been put in dormant state.

So far, many revolutionary groups of the region have fallen into the trap of peace talk and many others have suffered splits at unguarded moments because of peace talks or proposal for peace talks, Chaoren remarked.

These peace talks were also instrumental in spitting venom and creating distrust and conflicts among different communities.

This is exactly what is happening in Manipur and elsewhere in the region.

By taking recourse to this strategy, Government of India has been holding peace talks with different revolutionary groups separately, New Delhi has been scheming continuously to thwart any attempt to forge unity among revolutionary groups of the region.

In addition, New Delhi has been utilising many revolutionary cadres who have fallen into their trap of peace talk as reactionaries against the revolutionary movement.

Further, such peace talks have become a strong corroborative point in projecting the revolutionary movements as internal matters of India.

These peace talks are being held between the two parties in conflict in the absence of any third party or the United Nations.

To India, peace talk is a very effective and successful strategy for suppressing revolutionary movements.

But for revolutionary groups of the land, going for peace talk in the present situation would tantamount to selling off the collective rights of the nation.

It would be self-defeating, the RPF president asserted.

It would not be politically correct in the present situation to experiment with the peace talk as a new strategy in the revolutionary movement.

It would be more prudent to intensify the armed campaign in which the people reposed their faith since the very beginning of the liberation movement during which many lives were lost.

It was a very significant step in the revolutionary movement when seven revolutionary groups of the land came together to a common platform with a shared vision to struggle collectively.

This would pave way to forge greater alliance with other like minded revolutionary groups who share common objectives as well as with other revolutionary groups of the region waging war against India, Chaoren exuded.

He noted that Manipur witnessed one of the darkest phases in its entire history in the aftermath of the alleged forced merger of Manipur into India when Manipur was reduced to a very subservient status as a Part C State and then a Union Territory.

During this period, all the development programmes planned and executed by the Government of India never reached Manipur.

Whereas Manipur was stripped of the political power to devise its own development programmes, all the indigenous economic and political institutions were systematically destroyed.

It was during this period the Indian education system was introduced in Manipur and subsequently Manipur was rendered fully dependent on India.

This laid the foundation for today�s critically sick Manipur.

In the aftermath of these crucial 30 years or so, the corrupted Indian system and practices starting taking firm roots in the soil of Manipur.

Along with this, traditional values and customs of Manipur started degrading.

Soon a new class of politicians and bureaucrats whose sole objectives of life were personal aggrandisement took birth in the society.

These politicians and bureaucrats made the alleged puppet Government all the more corrupted.

This dreaded disease quickly spread to their colleagues and followers.

It was these politicians, bureaucrats and their followers who have been usurping all the money meant for executing development programmes in Manipur.

After this class of people seized total control of all the ways and means for the people to lead a dignified life, both the educated and the uneducated people could not find employment.

Even if one wishes to work under the alleged puppet Government, one has to offer huge amount as bribe money.

With this practice already accepted by the society as an indispensable social norm, many educated youths left Manipur and went to other places, making themselves assets of the countries/cities which adopted them.

On the other hand, many people who stayed back in Manipur have been living a dejected life without any hope of decent employment, and many of them have taken to drugs.
