Imphal, November 18 2014: The Deprivation Day was observed today at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of the Joint Committee on ILPS (JCILPS).

The observance was presided by JCILPS convenor H Ibotombi Khuman, Poirei Leimarol president L Memchoubi Leima, AMKIL president Ph Sakhi, Chituwa president RK Sanahanbi, IKAL advisor A Ridimala Leima and WACAK president Tharaksana.

Speaking at the occasion, Potsangbam Sonamani, president, Manipuri Association, North East India said Manipuri society as a whole needs to develop time management strategy before seeking any form of development.

On the issue of ILP, he said since Indian law does not deny implementation of ILP or any such system in a land there arises no possible reason as to why ILP cannot be implemented in Manipur.

Dignitaries from the field of Law have even agreed with the demand of the people on the ground that the demand is just and that ILP should be implemented in the State.

The association president further expressed apprehension that the indigenous people may be rendered extinct due to the persistent influx of non-locals.

Echoing his stance that ILP must be implemented in the State, Sonamani appealed to the people to support JCILPS in its efforts to save the indigenous people of the State from extinction.

Delivering the keynote address of the observation, L Nganbi Leima said the growing changes in human civilization and its direct impact on tradition must be acknowledged by the State Government.

The State must adopt, if not ILP, than any other similar system in order to save the indigenous culture and people from extinction.

Participants in today's observation function later discussed the issues of ILP and the November 1950 incident when the then Chief Commissioner Himat Singh had lifted the permit system from the State.
