Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill 2021 : Demonstrations staged at various places

Chd/Kpi, October 17 2021: Civil society organisations of Chandel district on Sunday staged demonstration at various places of the district endorsing the proposed "Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Bill, 2021" proposed and recommended by the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The demonstrations were organised by Naga Students Union Chandel (NSUC) and its constituent bodies, Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) Chandel, Naga Women Union Chandel (NWUC) and Naga Chiefs Association Chandel.

Banners with the slogan, "We support The Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021", "Convene special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Table the Bill", etc were used by the participants.

NSUC president, SK Joseph Lamkang also informed that demonstrations in support of the ADC Bill were reportedly held in more than 650 villages of Chandel district.

KANGPOKPI
Similar demonstrations were also staged in various parts of Kangpokpi district on Sunday in support of the ADC Bill 2021 .

As per KSO Sadar Hills, demonstrations were held at Saikul village, Saikul Hill town and adjoining areas, Bunglung village, C Aisan, Twinomjang, N Zilphai and Gangpijang in KSO Saikul block.

In KSO Twibul Block, L Phaijang village, Kangchup Chiru, Kangchup Ponlen, Nakhujang village, Ireng Naga village, Kangchup Bethel, Kangchup Chingkhong, K Chiru village, L Munlai, Peniel, Khunkho Kuki, L Saronphai, Haraothel, Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Khunnou, L Phaikot, Salem Lhouthang, P Molding, Ch Ebenezer, NC Phai, Kangchup Patbung, Kangchup Twikun, K Geljang, Happy Valley, Leimakhong and Hengjang Leimakhong participated in the demonstration.

Demonstrations were also held at Sadar Joute, Nungte Chiru, Thangbuh village, T Mongbung, Khoripok village, L Janglenphai, Manamjang village and lower Pholjang under KSO Moltam Block.

In the general area of Kangpokpi, Leikot village, K Lhangnom, Khengjang, Motbung, Pangmol, G Songlung, Songpi village, Sapormeina, Lower Khengjang, Kangpokpi Town, Gamgiphai and Mongtung.

The protestors in various locations were seen organising candlelit vigils in protest against the failure to table the ADC Bill, 2021 in the Assembly while endorsing the ongoing movement for securing the Constitutional Rights of tribals vis-a-vis the demand for the tabling of the Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill, 2021 recommended by Hill Areas Committee.

Speaking to media persons, KSO Sadar Hills general secretary, Thangtinlen Haokip said that the HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021 is envisaged to promote the long overdue equitable development in the State of Manipur for the tribals by empowering the Autonomous District Councils while the Bill aims to bridge the disproportionate development between hills and valley of the State without disturbing any constitutional rights of the non-tribal population in the State.
