Imphal, July 15 2024:
In their quest for justice, families of Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam and Phijam Hemanjit who are feared to have been murdered by Kuki terrorists submitted a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan today.
The memorandum sought the Governor's intervention into the particular case so that the location of the missing students can be established, if they are still alive or their mortal remains can be retrieved in case they have been murdered.
Former Minister AK Mirabai was also present when the memorandum was submitted to the Governor.
Speaking to media persons after submitting the memorandum, Mirabai decried that the Government is still unable to trace the two students even though it has been over one year since they went missing.
Even if they have been already murdered, the Government has done very little to retrieve their mortal remains, she said.
After the case of Linthoingambi and Hemanjit was handed over to the CBI, it was reported that some individuals involved in the case had been arrested.
It was also reported that the CBI had submitted a chargesheet to Court.
Since then, the case has not seen any new development, Mirabai said.
After perusing the memorandum, Anusuiya Uikey assured that she would seek a detailed report of the case from the Security Advisor and find out the latest developments, according to Mirabai.
The Governor further assured that she would arrange a meeting between the Security Advisor and the families of the two missing students on Tuesday.
Linthoingambi Hijam of Sagolband Tera Tongbram Leikai and Phijam Hemanjit of Takyel Kolom Leikai went missing on July 6, 2023 and they were last seen riding a bike towards Moirang.
On September 25, 2023, photographs of the two students held captive by armed persons and lifeless bodies of the two lying on the ground went viral on social media.
