Imphal, October 10 2021: Janata Dal United (JDU) will fight the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on the plank of development and justice.

JDU National president and Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Ranjan Singh said this at a press conference held at the office of JDU Manipur at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak in Imphal today and added that during the last 3 days he had been meeting party leaders to strengthen the foothold of the party for the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election which is slated to be held in the early part of 2022.Rajiv Ranjan informed the media that the development of the State he has seen during his visit is not satisfactory and added that the level of developmental works in the State need to be scaled up if it is to come at par with other States of the country.

He also told the media that when JDU leader Nitish Kumar came to power in Bihar in 2005, the State was very backward, the road connectivity was also in a very pitiful condition and the law and order situation was no better.

However after 16 years of Nitish Kumar's rule in Bihar, the road connectivity has improved.

Power supply to remote villages averaged at 22 hours a day while it is 24 hours in urban areas and the law and order has improved to that level where a woman can walk or travel on the roads in Bihar alone even at midnight, he claimed.

Bihar has become the first State to have 35% reservation for women in Government recruitments and 50% seats have been reserved for women candidates in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and Panchayat, he added.

More than 10 lakh women oriented Self Help Groups have been formed to create a sustainable livelihood for more than 2 crore women in Bihar, he added.

Rajiv Ranjan further said JDU will contest the upcoming election with the aim and promise to bring the aforesaid developments to Manipur.

He also questioned how development of a State can move forward if ADC and IMC elections have been put on hold as these are the machineries that work closely with the public at grassroot level.

The MP also appealed the Government to deliver justice in the murder of social activist Athuan Abonmai.

Responding to a question, Rajiv Ranjan said as of now JDU has not fixed the number of candidates they will field in the upcoming polls and added no decision has been taken on pre and post poll alliances.

However decisions to this effect will be taken very soon.

The press conference was also attended by KC Tyagi, National general secretary; Afaque Ahmad Khan, general secretary NE incharge; MP Ramprit Mandal, secretary JDU and Manipur incharge and Hangkhanpao Taithul, State president.
