Lamka, December 22 2011:
About 200 lecturers and lab attendants recruited by the State Government for 12 Higher Secondary schools located in the hill districts were left in the lurch as the Government remains adamant in clearing their outstanding remuneration and acknowledging their services.
The agreement period of the contract, according to the lecturers, have already expired on February 28 which was in the midst of the academic session.
As the Government fails to extend their contract period, the lecturers still continue teaching till date while the government refuse to acknowledge their services, said an association of the lecturers.
Over and above, the Government has paid their remuneration only till October 2010 leaving them abandoned; of their outstanding remuneration or any sort of monetary compensation thereafter.
With the many reminders of the lecturers about their plight to the State Government falling into deaf ears, the All Manipur Hills Contract Basis Lecturers' Assocaition in its general body meeting held at Imphal on December 20 urged the Government to pay the due remuneration from November 2010 to December 2011 .
The meeting of the lecturers also demanded the Government to extend their engagement period for another academic session.
Failure to fulfill the demands would attract an indefinite cease work strike, said a statement of the association issued by S Bimolchand Singh, secretary information and publicity.
