Imphal, April 19 2024:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has lodged complaints to the ECI, CEO and other authorities concerned against rival Congress candidate Dr Bimol Akoijam for allegedly violating the election code of conduct.
Speaking to media persons at their Nityaipat Chuthek office this afternoon, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Sarat Kumar alleged that Dr Bimol Akoijam today went to different polling stations together with a large group of unidentified youngsters clad in black clothes, in addition to the security escorts allotted to him, and indulged in activities which would have created ruckus at the polling stations.
The ECI authorises every candidate to enter polling stations together with one of his or her agents but Dr Bimol was entering polling stations with a group of followers, K Sarat Kumar said.
By moving around with a group of youngsters clad in black clothes, Dr Bimol was violating the code of conduct and trying to ignite tension, he alleged.
He said that the Congress party must be held responsible for the ruckus and tense situation seen at different places today.
However, on being enquired about some people clad in black clothes asking electors not to vote for the Congress candidate but cast their votes in favour of the BJP candidate, the BJP general secretary maintained that it had nothing to do with BJP.
