Sandang Senba celebrates Sowang Lamlai Yuilamwa

Sowang Lamlai Yuilamwa, an indigenous cultural festival of Maring tribe organized by the Sandang Senba Maring Village and Kulbi Shong Shong Tribal Cultural Centre was held at Sandang Senba Maring Village, Senapati district.
A folk drama show depicting the Maring Cultural Heritage, its history and Origin entitled Kulbi Shong Shong produced by the Maring Theatre group Kulbi Shong Shong Cultural Centre was also presented at Sandangsenba Maring Community hall as part of the festival.
The function was attended by Nongmaiching Constituency ADC Member ML Dominic Kansouwa, the village chairman Kt Mothil and Indigenous Minority Organisation Manipur vice president ML Medun as the chief guest, president and co-presidium member respectively.

Earlier, Villagers performed religious rites and rituals pertaining to the Sowang Lamlai Yuilamwa festival with the village Chief (Khullakpa) Angkhul Maring as the main host.
This particular festival has been celebrated by the Maring tribe in Manipur since time immemorial to mark the construction of road on the eve of annual harvesting season.
"We offer prayer to God known as Om in Maring vernacular to bring good productivity, peace and happiness in the village", said Mothang Modar ex-Khullakpa of Sandang Senba Maring village.
He said that the indigenous festival of Maring tribe in Manipur is gradually languishing with almost Maring tribe embracing Christianity neglecting the festival day by day.
