Angou JAC threatens general strike in Thoubal

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the abduction of one Akoijam Angou of Thoubal Awang Leikai has warned of launching a 48-hour general strike from 5 am of October 25 in case the government authorities could not confirm whereabouts of Angou by Thursday.
Angou was reportedly taken captive by unidentified persons from near Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School, Uripok in Imphal West district on September 30.The strike was announced on the sidelines of a sit-in protest organised by the JAC at Thoubal Keithel on Wednesday.
According to spokesperson Sanjenbam Sorojini, in case Angou could not be traced by Thursday, the JAC will enforce the 48 -hour general strike across Thoubal district.
Recalling that the abduction was promptly reported to Imphal West police station, she lamented that even after 24 days, authorities concerned are yet to make.

Meanwhile, Sorojini urged meira paibi groups, local clubs and CSOs to extend support to the general strike call, while adding that those in essential services, religious events, and media persons would be exempted from purview of the strike.
Angou's wife Kiran Leima, who also took part in the sit-in, appealed to the abductors to clarify motive for such act, facilitate discussion in case her husband had done anything wrong, and to ensure his safe return.
