Meet demands action against sexual assaulter

Thoubal, August 31 2024: A joint meeting of Charangpat Mamang Leikai Women Welfare Association and 14 clubs of the locality have condemned the alleged sexual assault of a 34year-old mentally disabled woman by one Sairem Jiban (58), son of S Samungou of Charangpat Mamang Leikai.

The joint meeting was held at the shed of the Association on Saturday.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Association's president Meisnam Manglembi said that the woman was sexually assaulted for the third time by S Jiban on August 23.The assault remained unknown earlier as there was no witness, but this time he cannot go scot-free as there is a witness, who saw him trying to sexually assault the victim, she asserted.

M Manglembi also disclosed that on being confronted, the accused ran away and has remained hidden since then.

Emphasising that people involved in sexual crimes against women and children should be publicly punished, she urged the authority concerned to nab the alleged sexual assaulter and punish him accordingly.
