Jiribam, October 18 2024:
Exerting pressure on authorities concerned to cede to their demand for posting adequate number of teachers and timely reporting for duty of a teacher recently transferred, students of Jiribam Higher Secondary School locked down the school on Friday.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the agitation, a students' union member recalled of submitting a memorandum to education minister Th Basanta Kumar through the Jiribam deputy commissioner on October 6 to look into shortage of teachers at the school at the earliest, as well as ensure joining of the teacher designated to the school.
As the government authority undermined the demands, the students staged sit-in protest and cautioned the department concerned to honour their demands within October 16 failing which intense agitations including shutdown of the school would be resorted to, the member said.
As the government seems uninterested in addressing inconvenience and plight of the students even after serving the ultimatum, they decided to seal the school, reasoned the union member.
