An Indian crested hawk-eagle, a Schedule-I species under Wildlife Protection Act 1972, that one Mathew of Sangrunpang village had rescued, was handed over to Manipur Zoological Gardens by Range Forest Officer, Tamenglong Forest Division, on Thursday.
The rescued bird was handed over by Kh Hitler Singh, DFO Tamenglong, to L Birmangol Singh, director Manipur Zoological Gardens, in the presence of RFOs Johnson Khundrakpam, Joel Gangmei and Thangjam Gyanic.
The DFO Tamenglong thanked Mathew for saving the raptor, which had been weakened by the recent hailstorm.
Wildlife is an integral part of our ecology, and they may clean it up by consuming dead animals, according to the DFO, who also called for wildlife protection and a ban on hunting in Tamenglong district's forest.
