HAC members meet, oppose sept 1 order

Imphal, September 06 2021: An emergency meeting or the existing eight members of Hill Areas Committee (HAC) held Monday has unanimously resolved to demand revocation of the September 1 order issued by Manipur Legislative Assembly Secretariat related to appointment of nine non-hill MLAs as members of the HAC.

During the meeting held at the HAC's office and presided over by its chairman K Leishiyo the members termed the order as an affront to First Schedule of Presidential Order 1972 .

In all 12 member MLAs namely K Leishiyo, Awangbou Newmai, V Hangkhanlian, D Korungthang, DD Thaisii, TN Haokip, Gaikhangam, N Kayisii, Nemcha Kipgen, Khashim Vashum, Yamthang Haokip and Alfred Kanngam Arthur attended the meeting.

After the meeting a joint statement appended by the 12 members termed the order as unconstitutional and demanded that it must be rescinded immediately as per the constitutional mandate.

The members also unanimously resolved to submit a memorandum to the authorities concerned at the earliest to highlight and address issues concerning HAC.
