Source: Chronicle News Service

Thoubal, October 05 2021: Political workers of BJP clashed with activists of non-BJP parties at Tourangbam Leikai Heirok part-II under Heirok police station on Monday night that resulted in damages caused to houses and vehicles.

Police fired tear gas canisters and used smoke bombs to disperse and control the violent mob.

On the other hand, people who got injured during the incident were upset because of the police action.

Speaking to media persons, one of the injured persons identified as Tourangbam Meena, informed that many people claiming themselves to be BJP workers came to the market shed near her house around 8.30 pm on Monday for 'torch vigil'.

However, they started playing loud BJP propaganda music 'BJP gi Thambal' on the public address system and used un-parliamentary languages and confronted everyone they came across in the locality.

Hearing the commotion, she went out of her house and told them that such loud music was disrupting the study of her children and also pointed out about the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation.

At that moment, a team of Heirok police led by OC came and she urged the police not to let any political parties carry out 'torch vigil' at the market shed.

But the police instead of dispersing the unruly mob, cot off power supply (transformer) and fired tear gas shells and smoke bombs towards her house, Meena alleged, while adding that stones and bricks were also pelted towards her house.

The windshield of a car parked in the garage was broken because of it, she added.

Condemning the bias attitude of the police, Meena urged the government, the CM in particular, to transfer the Heirok PS OC from Heirok at the earliest.

Moirangthem Tombi of Heirok Part-Ill Bamol Leirak also recalled similar incident of throwing stones at her house by those who claimed to be BJP workers.

Recalling that the incident that topk place on October 1, she said that Heirok PS OC came at the spot while she was talking with the people and the police showed biasness on several accounts.

She also urged CM to take up necessary actions.

Meanwhile, Tourangbam Ibotomba alleged that the violent incidents that took place on Monday and October 1 were led by Khundongbam Jolly alias Boy (policeman), Leithanthem Jibon, Thokehom Sunanta, Saikhom Jagatchandra, Ningthoujam Prem and Ningthoujam Panan.

They also damaged vehicles and their house.

While informing that he was injured on his head when they hit him with a stick, he urged the government to impose restriction under section 144 of CrPC in the locality as pre poll violence is occurring in the locality frequently.
