Political leader Sushil Huidrom passes away

Sushil Huidrom, a prominent political leader and human rights advocate, passed away on Saturday after a prolonged struggle with cancer.
He was 58 and survived by his wife and two sons.
Sushil was known for his significant contributions to both the political and human rights landscapes of northeast India.
In December 2023, he joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as national secretary, overseeing the party's activities in the northeast.
Before his tenure with the NCP, Sushil Huidrom spent over eight years with the National People's Party (NPP), where he held key roles including legal advisor, vice president and spokesperson for the state of Manipur.
He also served as the national secretary for the party's affairs in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
Beyond politics, Sushil was a dedicated human rights advocate.
He served as general secretary of the Civil Liberties & Human Rights Organisation (CLAHRO), working on issues related to civil liberties and human rights protection.
Sushil Huidrom's work also extended internationally, where he was associated with United Nations and USAID on issues related to HIV & AIDS, public health and development for over 14 years.
