96 stuck in Chandel border airlifted to Imphal

All the 96 individauls who took shelter in an Assam Rifles camp at Pheisenjang in Chandel district along the Ind� -Myanmar border since outbreak of the communal clash on May 3 have been evacuated and brought to Imphal on Monday in a MI-17 helicopter of Indian Air Force.
According to a source, all 96 individauls entered the AR camp on May 4 and they remained stuck in the border village.
As there were problems in transportation of the stranded people by road, MI-17 helicopter of Indian Air Force was utilised to evacuate them.
All the 96 individauls were provided food, medicines and com-munication facilities with their families apart from se-curity while staying at the AR camp, the source added.
Meanwhile, Maram Bat-talion of IGAR (East) res-cued and sheltered over 350 Meeteis belonging to Imphal valley, who were badly af-fected due to the ethnic clashes in the state.
A statement issued by the PRO (Defence) informed that Meetei population in Sena - pati district, outer fringes of Kangpokpi district and transients moving to Imphal valley from Dimapur side but left stranded, were given free food, shelter and medical care by the battalion.
Maram Battalion man-aged to rescue more than 250 villagers in the past week and shifted them to safety while uniting them with their family members, who were worried about their safety and security.
On Mon-day, another 70 Meeteis were taken to safety in different parts of Imphal,
the state-ment added.
