Thoubal, November 07 2022:
DC Thoubal Ahanthem Subhash has called for taking up efforts to ensure delivery of benefits of various agriculture and horticulture schemes to the genuine farmers.
He was attending a programme organised by district horticulture and soil conservation officer, Thoubal for distribution of winter crop seeds to select farmers of Thoubal and Kakching districts under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) - 2022-23 at the DC Office Complex, Thoubal on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Subhash stressed the need for timely sowing of Rabi crop seeds in order to keep the fields green after the paddy harvest season.
He urged the department officials to verify the details of the applications received for assistance so that the actual farmers could get benefits of the government schemes.
At the same time, farmers should not just take the benefit just because it is provided free of cost by the government but should strive to improve the sector and increase food production, he said.
The DC commended the department officials for adding an interaction session between farmers and experts, considering the emerging technologies.
Just distributing seeds without informing about the new techniques and technologies will not bring much development in the sector, Subash said.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation Thoubal district officer M Nabachandra explained that his office is implementing two schemes - state plan scheme and central plan scheme.
Under the state plan scheme, the department is producing Mushroom spawn by setting up Mushroom Development Unit, and distributing alternative seeds.
Programmes under Central sponsored schemes include MIDG, PMKSY, RKVY and PMFBY, he said.
The seeds distributed to the farmers of the two districts include French bean, pea, onion, cabbage and tomato with a target of covering 118 hectares of farmland, Nabachandra said.
The officer also explained about PMKSY scheme, under which farmers can get water pump sets, drip irrigation system, sprinkler irrigation system, portable sprinkler and mini sprinkler at subsidised rate.
Thoubal Municipal Council former chairman Waikhom Kesho presided over the function while Dr M Thoithoi attended as expert and interacted with the participating farmers.
