More gun-attack incidents reported in Andro
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, February 21 2022: Unknown miscreants reportedly opened several rounds of fire at the office of New Vision Organisation, Yairipok Top Chingtha under Andro AC around 1.30 am on Monday.

Speaking to newspersons, New Vision secretary Khoirom Kenedy recounted that unknown persons, who came in a black colour Baleno car and armed with an AK rifle, opened fire in wee hours of Monday.

Condemning the incident, Kenedy informed that a Horse Riding Training camp is currently being organised in the premises and the players are staying there as well.

Many state-level Polo players are also participating in the ongoing camp.

NPP candidate Lourembam Sanjoy had extended assistance to the camp in the form of food and firewood.

This is not related to politics; he contended and urged all not to create fear among the players "The Organisation is not related to any political party," he said, while questioning who will be held responsible if the players, many of whom are young in age, were to get injured.

Unidentified gunmen also reportedly fired several rounds at the residential gate of one Laishram Romen of Uchol Machil, who happens to be a worker of NPP candidate L Sanjoy around 3.09 am on Monday.

Meanwhile, Duty Magistrate, Imphal East on Monday remanded 12 people, who were arrested by Imphal East District Police in connection with the poll-violence incident that took place in Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai on February 18 night, to three days in police custody.

The 12 people arrested in connection with the violent incidents that took place in different parts in Andro are Heikham Kiran of Yairipok Top, Md Salimuddin of Changamdabi Makha Leikai, Sanasam Brojen of Yairipok Yambem Santipur, Khaidem Hemba of Yairipok Top Makha Leikai, Ningthoujam Samananda of Yairipok Top Makha Leikai, Hijam Uttam of Yairipok Yambem, Lourembam Jotin of Yambem Mathak Leikai, Moirangthem Anand of Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai, Sanabam Ingocha of Yambem Makha Leikai, Khumanthem Robert of Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai, Sarungbam Tondon of Yambem Makha Leikai, and Chingakham Ranjan of Andro Khunou Torongthel.

IO of the case reported that Andro PS had taken up a suo moto case in connection with the February 18 night incident wherein a violent scuffle broke out between a group of workers of NPP candidate led by Md Abdul Malik alias Ningthem of Tulihal Awang Leikai and Anwar Khullakpa of Tulihal Mayai Leikai, and the workers of BJP candidate led by Sarungbam Bimol of Yairipok Yambem Makha Leikai, CID Security head constable Md Riyazuddin of Tulihal Toupokpi, and Md Habibur Rahman of Yairipok Tulihal Toupokpi, at Yairipok Tulihal Awang Leikai.

During the scuffle, 6 vehicles were destroyed.

The scuffle then moved towards Yairipo-Kaina road crossing, wherein a Gypsy was damaged.

As part of the investigation, a police team examined the crime spots and found 6 damaged vehicles, 7 bullet casing, and one bullet-proof jacket issued to civilians.

The police team also took a report of the injured.

During interrogation, the arrested people admitted to being workers of NPP and BJP and also accepted the charges levelled against them.

After listening to the IO's report, the Court remanded the 12 people to three days in police custody for further interrogation.
