Imphal, July 27 2022:
Labour minister H Dingo has informed that the department has filed a case against an individual for renting out a night shelter for labourers constructed by labour department at Chingmeirong.
The minister was responding to a calling attention motion moved by opposition member K Ranjit citing a media report during the ongoing session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
While moving the motion, MLA Ranjit said that an individual renting out a government facility is a serious matter.
It is more surprising that the individual removed the signboard installed by the government and put up signboards that read "Do not enter without owner's permission" and "No parking in front of the house", as per the media report.
Responding to the motion, minister Dingo said that he was informed by the chief minister about the matter on the same day the report was published in local media.
As he became a minister for the first time, he was shocked and saddened by the report, and sought an enquiry report from the department officials.
As per the enquiry report, the department acquired a homestead plot along with a building measuring 0.11 acres along Chingmeirong Dingku Road at the cost of Rs 61,14,464 from one Thongam Muhindro, son of late Munal of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai on March 3, 2010.Later, the department renovated the building and converted it into a shelter home on June 9, 2010.Construction of a two-storey building also began on the northern side of the plot in 2011 and after completion of the building, the shelter home started functioning from 2013 to 2017 .
On February 17, 2015, the previous land owner Thongam Muhindro submitted an objection letter through the deputy labour commissioner citing pending payment of Rs 1.14 lakh.
He also claimed that he only sold 0.9 acre and not 0.11 acre, which led to a dispute.
Later, the department filed an injunction suit after consulting with the law department and the matter is pending in the civil court of Imphal East district, the minister said, while assuring of taking up necessary action as per the court order.
