Imphal, September 26 2022: Conveying that most workers in the unorganized sector of Manipur and many North East States have failed to reap the benefits of Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PMSYM) scheme owing to lack of awareness of the said scheme, the Zonal Director of North Eastern region of Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development, Somoranjit Singh has said that the said Board will intensify its awareness and enrolment drive in the same region.

He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of "Workers Education Week" which concluded today at the Secured Office Complex, Imphal.

The Zonal Director stated that the awareness level on Government schemes like e-SHRAM and PMSYM is quite poor in all the North Eastern States of India, except Assam.

He continued that the workers in the unorganized sector within the age bracket of 18 to 40 years can avail the opportunity of getting a pension of Rs 3000 after they attain 60 years under the PMSYM scheme by contributing a minimal amount per month during their working days.

Further maintaining that the pension amount may increase with time, the Zonal Director added that even the families of the workers in unorganized sector who are enrolled in the PMSYM scheme will get half the amount of their pension when they pass away.

He also said that Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development will intensify its awareness program and enrolment for PMSYM by directly going to the field and interacting with the workers.

While highlighting the initiatives taken by the Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development, Somaranjit asserted that the board will start emphasizing on the quantifiable result oriented program which can equip the people in rural areas with the skills for income generation.

"For this, the board will assess the needs of the people in the State and North East as a whole to formulate suitable training programs as per need and enhance their life", the Zonal Director added.

He claimed that the board has been giving awareness on how to increase the quality of the products to the workers in unorganized sectors besides imparting knowledge about accessing the Governmental schemes.

Somaranjit sought the cooperation of NGOs, social activists and workers' leaders in the State to strive together in making the workers in the unorganized sectors better equipped with the requisite skills and knowledge for accessing the Governmental schemes.

During the workers' education meet, various leaders from trade unions and representatives from multiple firms exchanged ideas and thoughts on how to improve the conditions of workers in the State.
