Kangpokpi, May 26 2023: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai and BJP National spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra met leaders of several civil society organizations and the Committee on Tribals Unity Sadar Hills at Kangpokpi District Headquarters, today.

Meanwhile, the ITLF media cell reported that the Union MoS and the BJP spokesperson made the tribal leaders at Churachandpur wait for more than three hours and also changed the venue of the meeting from 27 Sector Assam Rifles post to DC office at the last minute.

Churachandpur town also wore a deserted look today, following the shutdown called by civil society organisations of the town.

Therefore, the tribal leaders took it as a disrespect and left without meeting the Central leaders.

The Union MoS and the BJP National spokesperson are the first two Central leaders to visit Kangpokpi and Churachandpur since the eruption of the ethnic conflict on May 3 .

At Kangpokpi, leaders of different CSOs and Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU), Sadar Hills waited for the two Central leaders who came in an IAF chopper.

The chopper landed at Brig M Thomas ground at around 1.40 pm.

The meeting scheduled to be held at the DC office of Kangpokpi was shifted to the Kangpokpi post of 22 Assam Rifles.

During the almost two-hour-long meeting, the spokesperson of the COTU, Sadar Hills, K Sitlhou apprised the Central leaders of the sequence of the violence, alleged atrocities and other crimes committed with papers and video evidence.

After listening to the grievances and watching the video footage, the Union MoS assured that justice will surely be delivered to all the victims of the ethnic conflict.

Dr Sambit Patra said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will come to Manipur for a three day visit.

Saying that Amit Shah would talk about a solution to the conflict during his stay in Manipur, he asked the people to have faith in the Constitution and the Union Home Minister.

Meanwhile, COTU's sit-in protest culminated today at Leikop village in Kangpokpi district.

The sit-in protest was attended by hundreds of people.

On the sideline of the protest, COTU spokesperson said that the talk with the Central leaders was fruitful.
