Imphal, October 18 2024:
POL and bulk LPG transporters have resolved to stop transporting petroleum products along Imphal-Jiribam road if the State Government and oil marketing companies don't compensate the transporters for the expenses on illegal taxes.
The resolution was taken during a meeting of POL and bulk LPG transporters convened at Hotel Nirmala today.
During the meeting, the transporters said that collection of illegal taxes is still continuing at different points along Imphal-Jiribam road despite the repeated assurances given by the Government to prevent it.
Saying that different taxes are being levied on the transporters in the form of yearly tax, godown tax, gate pass ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 2000, the transporters said that they have already approached the State Government and oil marketing companies over the issue but there still is no solution in sight.
They also said that collection of illegal taxes is increasing day by day along the highway stretch to the extent that it has become unbearable to the transporters.
Appealing to the State Government and oil marketing companies to compensate the expenses which the transporters spend on illegal taxes, they cautioned that the transporters may stop transporting petroleum products if their demand is not entertained.
The meeting was jointly organised by All Manipur Petroleum Products Transporters' Association (AMPPTA) and All Manipur Bulk LPG Transporters' Association (AMBTA) .
