Believe it or not.
But its true.
In the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency held on April 16, the polling station which recorded cent percent polling has turned out to be polling station which the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had vacated and is being represented by his wife MLA Landhoni Devi.
According to reliable source, polling station no.35/32-Athokpam (C) which falls under the Khangabok Assembly Constituency from where the present Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh was elected, recorded the highest the polling registering an unbelievably enviable cent percent in the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
The total number of voters in the said polling station is 689 and in the report of the District Election Officer/Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal submitted to the Election Commission it was mentioned that all the voters exercised their franchise.
Among the voters who exercised their franchise in the said polling station, the number of male voters recorded was 313 and 376 female voters.
But interestingly, in the Electoral Roll of the same polling stations, out of the total of 689 voters, the number of male and female voters have been recorded respectively as 311 and 378.Although at the time of casting their votes, the number of male voters increased by two the female votes recorded was less by two.
After the Chief Electoral Officer ordered an inquiry into the matter related to registration of cent percent polling in 35/32-Athokpam (C), the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal today submitted a report clarifying that the Presiding Officer had committed some mistakes at the time of the tabulation and that percentage of the polling recorded should be 99.12, the source informed, adding that no irregularities could be detected in the report of the DC.
The official source also conveyed that the poll percentage recorded in other polling stations of Athokpam area under Khangabok Assembly Constituency of Thoubal district were also all very high registering over 99 percent.
For instance, 99.08 percent has been recorded at polling station no.35/27; 99.41 percent at polling station no.35/28; 99.59 percent at polling station no.35/31 and 99.23 percent at polling station no.35/16 .
It may be recalled here that in the last Assembly election, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh had contested and won the election from both the Khangabok and Thoubal Assembly Constituency.
On giving up his Khangabok seat, by-election was held in which his wife was elected.
On the other hand, repolling of the four polling stations in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency held today passed off peacefully with report of any untowards incident.
According to information received from the State Election Department, the percentage of polling recorded in the repoll of the four polling stations are respectively 81 percent at 44/40-Nungshong Khullen of Ukhrul A/C in Ukhrul district, 93 percent at 51/48-Dolang Khunou of Saitu A/C in Senapati district, 75 percent at 53/9-Tamenglong Headquarters (A) of Tamenglong A/C in Tamenglong District and 95.5 percent at 59/30-Tuibong (North-A) of Saikot A/C in Churachandpur district.
Meanwhile, according to another source, Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) brought from Senapati DC office to the State Election Office at Lamphel in a Tata tripper were unloaded like sand and stone causing damages to some of the EVMs.
In this connection the Chief Electoral Officer today suspended a staff of the Senapati DC identified as Kh Chourajit.
