Imphal, May 09 2024: Two individuals have been stopped from crossing over to Kangpokpi district during the last 48 hours.

Two persons (Meiteis) riding a Honda Activa were heading toward Kangpokpi district when they were detained by Sekmai police at Kanglatongbi naka post at around 1.10 pm on Wednesday.

By stopping the two individuals identified as Sougrakpam Samananda Singh (30) s/o late S Surendro of Changangei Makha Leikai and Kangjam Monex Singh (32) s/o K Jayanta Singh of Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, police prevented possible murder or abduction or forced disappearance.

Counting the two individuals, Sekmai police have successfully saved 15 people since the violent conflict erupted on May 3 last year from landing in serious troubles, said Sekmai police station OC Athokpam Deepak.

Briefing media persons today at Sekmai police station after handing over the two rescued men to their respective families, OC Athokpam Deepak said that a combined team of Sekmai police station, 22 AR, 52 Bn BSF and SIT was on duty at the Kanglatongbi naka post when the two men tried to cross over to Kangpokpi district around 1.10 pm yesterday.

The two men were detained at the naka post.

On questioning, it was learnt that they are Meiteis from Imphal West district.

They were then taken to Sekmai police station and handed over to their respective families, the OC said.

Since the violent conflict erupted on May 3, 2023, Sekmai police have been working at their best level to thwart untoward incidents, he said.

But a large number of vehicles move on the highway every day and the area around the naka post is inhabited by people who look similar.

As such, police face several difficulties in identifying each and every person, Athokpam Deepak said.

However, eight persons who crossed the naka post toward Kangpokpi district could not be traced till date.

Since then, Sekmai police have been working day and night to prevent such unwanted incidents, the OC said before appealing to all the people to cooperate with police.

He appealed to all the people to stop any attempt to cross the Kanglatongbi naka post until the ongoing crisis is resolved.

Notably, two students from Akham, two youth from Sekmaijin, two persons from Sekmai and one each from Thangmeiband and Khonghampat could not be traced till date after they crossed the Kanglatongbi naka post toward Kangpokpi district.

Meanwhile, one Meitei teenager who reached Senapati on a bus has been rescued by Assam Rifles.

Sagolsem Kiran (18) of Awang Sekmai mistakenly boarded a Senapati-bound bus today.

The bus driver noticed the boy and showing presence of mind took the boy to Senapati police station.

On receiving information about Sagolsem Kiran boarding a Senapati-bound bus and that he had reached Senapati which was confirmed by the Imphal West SP, the CO of 22 Assam Rifles contacted the QRT of 16 AR to pick up Kiran from Senapati PS.

Thus Sagolsem Kiran was brought back to Awang Sekmai.

It is said that the teenager is mentally unstable and he was handed over to his family members and Meira Paibis at Sekmai police station at around 6.45 pm today.
