220 dice sets seized, traffic regulations spelt out

Imphal West district police have seized at least 220 sets of Diwali dice in the last two weeks from different parts of the district as a part of the measures taken up to prevent Diwali gambling to some level.
The seized Diwali dice sets were displayed before media persons today during a press meet held in the conference hall of Imphal West district police.
Speaking to media persons, N Herojit, SP Imphal West said that the drive has been carried out by the district police led by Additional SPs, SDPOs and OCs of different police station along with the district commando personnel.
However, most of the people who were organizing dice gambling games managed to flee on seeing police personnel approaching them.
Yet, many dice sets have been seized and on some occasions, police managed to arrest some persons who were organising dice gambling games and they were produced before the Court and fined.

Imphal West district police managed to seize at least 220 sets of dice pieces and Singjamei police alone had seized 92 sets of dice from their jurisdiction.
He also said that people have a wrong notion that dice sets seized by police are given back to those persons who have been organising dice gambling games in exchange for some money.
Many people have been asking whereabouts of the dice sets seized by police.
The SP said that all the dice sets seized this year will be destroyed in a short period of time along with 310 other dice sets which were seized last year.
He informed that the drive would be intensified so as to stop Diwali gambling in Imphal West district.
He also said that incentives will be given to police stations and officers who manage to seize maximum number of dice sets after the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
In view of the hectic spree, certain restrictions would be imposed on entry of vehicles in Khwairamband Keithel, Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar from October 29 till November 1 from 7 am to 6 pm, and there shall be one way traffic norm for pedestrians along Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar, the SP said.
Parking areas for shoppers have been already identified by district police and the parking space will be provided at Keishampat bus parking, Moirang Leirak bus parking, Nagamapal stretch (both eastern and western sides), northern side of Khoyathong along DMC road, parking area of the temporary market shed, southern side of BT road (only one line parking), eastern side of Johnstone School, Indira Park stretch and along Adarsh Hospital.
He also said that there will be diversion of heavy vehicle during the said period.
All the vehicles coming from Singjamei side along NH 39 will be diverted from Singjamei bridge and New Thumbuthong toward Kongba side and then to Place Compound and they should be parked there.
All vehicles coming from Mayang Imphal side along Mayai Lambi will be diverted from Keishampat junction towards former Krisnadas Oil Pump to drop and pick up passenger and will proceed towards Kwakeithel and the towards Ningthemcha Karong or Khagempalli road.
All vehicles coming towards Tiddim road will be diverted from Keishampat towards Wahengbam Leikai and then Sagolband side, Uripok canteen crossing, supermarket and return through Watham Leirak, Thangmeiband road, Nagamapal road, Wahengbam Leikai and Keishampat Junction and pick up passengers from Churachandpur bus parking.
All vehicles coming from New Cachar road may be parked across Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi (along Nambul river side).
Trucks will be diverted from Tera Bazar-Naoremthong-Uripok canteen road and Lamphel Sanakeithel.
He also said that vehicles coming from Kangchup side may be parked at the northern side of Uripok beyond the end of BT Flyover.
Vehicles coming from Senapati side will be diverted from Chingmeirong Khongnang Ani Karak towards central bus terminus, Dingku Road.
All trucks will be diverted from North AOC toward Minuthong, RDS crossing, Kongba road and then New Thumbuthong and Singjamei Bridge.
No vehicle will be allowed to proceed from Khongnang Ani Karak towards North AOC.
Vehicles coming from Ukhrul/Tinsid road and Pangei sides will be diverted from Minuthong toward Hatta and Palace compound/ISBT.
Vehicles coming from Andro and Yairipok sides will be stopped at Andro Parking and no vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Palace Gate traffic point toward Sanjenthong Bridge.
All the buses and trucks proceeding toward Thoubal side will be diverted toward Kyamgei Lamkhai via Khongman, Bashikhong and Kyamgei.
SP N Herojit also appealed to all who come for shopping to park their vehicles at the right places and be cautious about pickpockets and thieves.
He further appealed to all the people not to touch any kind of unattended things but inform police in case they come across any attended article/package.
