Class XII exams kick off

The Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination commenced today in violence torn Manipur with 31351 students appearing.
The Class XII examination which will continue till March 23 is being conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) across 111 centres in 15 districts.
Pherzawl is the only district which doesn't have any examination centre.
Of the 111 centres, 75 are in the valley districts while the remaining 36 are in the hills.
Stream-wise, Science has the maximum number of students at 22,631 and it is followed by Arts at 8100 and Commerce (620) .
Among the districts, Imphal West has the most number of students appearing for the Class XII examination (10,933) while Kamjong has the least with 153 .
2347 students are appearing for the examination in Churachandpur and it is the highest among the hill districts.
Speaking to the media at COHSEM office at Babupara today, Council Secretary Kh Ashnikumar said that adequate security measures have been taken up to conduct the examination smoothly.
Saying that spot verification drives were also conducted at periphery and other areas ahead of the examination, he added that a meeting of Section Officers, Officers-in charge and flying squad was also held for three days from February 8 to 10 at Johnstone Higher Secondary School.
Ashnikumar appealed to civil society organisation and student leaders of both hill and valley districts to ensure smooth conduct of the examination.
On the other hand, said that the Class XI examination which began yesterday will conclude on March 20, added Ashnikumar.
