MHRC orders autopsy

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has registered a suo-motu case in connection with the death of a businessman inside DMU campus recently.
Even as the circumstances leading to the death of the businessman, identified as Takhellambam Rakesh remains a mystery, the MHRC today directed SP Imphal West and RIMS Director to conduct an autopsy of the corpse.
The Commission also directed OC Imphal police station to appear before the Commission on February 23 .
Takhellambam Rakesh (47), son of Ibochou of Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak, Imphal West was found dead with bullet injury inside DMU campus on February 17 .
Reportedly, he was going to deliver money for a chit fund at around 12 noon and was carrying "a few lakh" with him.
His car, a Tata Nexon was found parked near the spot where his body was found.
His personal .32 license gun was found placed on his chest and an empty case was found near the body.
The MHRC today said the family members of the deceased have the right to know the cause of the death and "we hope and trust that the aforesaid authority [RIMS] will do the autopsy on the corpse/body of the deceased T Rakesh within a period of 7 days from today.
The Commission directed the SP Imphal West to take up the matter with the Director, RIMS for doing autopsy on the corpse/body of the deceased.
The Commission also directed the SP Imphal West to ask OC Imphal police station to appear before it on February 23 along with the relevant records, FIR case/UD case.
