L Brajamohon selected for Lifetime Award

In recognition of his contribution in the field of theatre, Rupmahal Theatre's senior director Loitongbam Brajamohon has been selected for the Elangbam Birkumar Lifetime Achievement Award, 2024 .
The award, presented with the title 'Artta Katthoklaba Thawai', is dedicated to honouring individuals who have made significant contributions to theatre in the state.
The lifetime award will the first presented in the name of theatre activist late Elangbam Birkumar, who played a pivotal role in promoting the theatre movement in the state.
Birkumar, in whose name the award has been instituted, was from Langmeidong Maning Makha Leikai.
He passed away at the age of 84, leaving behind a rich legacy as an actor, playwright, and director.
Despite losing his eyesight aged 45 years due to an unexplained condition, Birkumar's passion for theatre never waned as he continued to write and direct plays, overcoming his disability with resilience.
It may be recalled that Birkumar's journey in theatre began with the touring drama party 'Joy Drama', and he remained involved in the field until his last breath.
Loitongbam Brajamohon has been a proactive figure in promoting theatre across the state.
His influence extends not only through his directorial work but also through memorable performances, including his well-known portrayal of the character Shakuni in the popular Mahabharata Manipuri audio series.
His dedication has helped shape the contemporary theatre landscape in the state.
The Elangbam Birkumar Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Loitongbam Brajamohon during the upcoming 47th Kha Manipur Drama Festival, 2024.The award includes a memento, a citation, and cash.
