Bishnupur, May 17 2024: Troops of 33 Assam Rifles have been allowed to station at Leimaram Waroiching from Friday onwards after understanding between the locals and AR, to operate according to people's wish.

The locals of Oinam, Nambol and Konthoujam assembly constituencies have been protesting since May 12 against the proposed replacement of 5/9 GR with the Assam Rifles at Leimaram Waroiching.

The decision to permit deployment of the AR troopers came after a meeting on Friday at Bishnupur district DC office in the presence of Assam Rifles CO, Bishnupur DC and SP, Meira Paibi groups, members of local clubs and the public.

During the meeting, the local representatives, however, cautioned of launching intense agitation for withdrawal of Assam Rifles from the said location if unwanted incidents occur in their presence.

Earlier on Thursday, a public meeting was held at Bishnupur DC office with participation of the DC, SP and Nambol police OC, following reports of replacing 5/9 GR deployed at Leimaram Waroiching with 33 Assam Rifles.
