Ukhrul, May 11 2021:
Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL -Tangkhul Youth Council) has urged the state government to suspend six derelict doctors if they would fail to report to their place of posting by May 15 .
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the youth council's vice-president Themaso Tallanao said that six doctors who were transferred to Ukhrul District Hospital in the months of January and April this year, have failed to show up here for their regular duties.
"It is really sad to learn that six doctors who are supposed to be stationed here have failed to report till date," he continued.
"As a final call, we request the six doctors to report to their duties within 15 May 2021.Failing which, we urge the authorities concerned to place them under immediate suspension in the interest of the general population," he warned.
He said that as per a new posting Order vide Office Orders by the Governor: Manipur No MED-4 02/11/2021-HS-Health dated April 12, 2021 & No 2/29/2021-M(T&P) dated January 27, 2021, the six doctors should have reported to their respective assigned place of posting and started their duties.
"However, much to the shock and dismay of the district's denizens, they have not done this till date", he contended, while conveying that the youth council strongly condemned the act of the so-called front-line warriors who were neglecting their official duties.
According to Tallanao, in the current pandemic situation, the importance of health sector can't be downplayed by any doctors because their first priority should always be the welfare of the people.
"But the way the six doctors are shirking their duties clearly shows that they are not responsible enough to save the lives of the people living in Ukhrul district," he said.
He said that TMNL has received hordes of complaints from the public regarding acute shortage of doctors and staffers at the district's lone government-run hospital.
"It's really a matter of serious concern that the district has to continue facing the same issue in the midst of the dreaded pandemic situation where the number of positive cases are increasing rapidly day by day," he added.
