CCpur, February 09 2023:
The adaptive trial of the state oil palm project which was done in the year 2020 through the agriculture department has failed miserably with only one of the plants surviving out of a large number of the plants grown at the selected site near Mata village, according to sources.
The sources said that about 39 saplings were planted in November as part of the adaptive trial under the project.
Chief minister N Biren Singh had inaugurated the Oil Palm Project on November 12,2020 and thereafter it was experimented at a land near Mata village, under the supervision of the agriculture department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) .
However, some of the 17 saplings planted by KVK near Pearsonmun village hardly survived.
To ensure the proper growth of oil palm, the temperature should be 22-24 degree Celsius during winter and 29-33 Celsius during summer.
Manipur has been considered as a suitable place for oil palm planation which requires abundant annual rainfall.
Adaptive trial has been carried out in districts like Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Chandel, Churachandpur and Jiribam, the sources added.
