ESM held in UCO robbery case, ₹3.03 lakh recovered

Kakching, October 23 2024:
Kakching district police arrested the prime suspect involved in the robbery case that took place on October 16 around 3 pm at the United Commercial (UCO) Bank, Kakching branch.
The arrested individual has been identified as Naorem Rome (46), son of late N Gourahari of Kakching Sumak Leikai Keithel Macha Pareng.
Rome, an ex-serviceman (ESM) of the Indian Air Force, was apprehended from his residence on Wednesday around 2:30 pm.
In a press conference held at the conference room of Kakching superintendent of police (SP), DIG Range-II Jogeshchandra Haobijam shared details of the arrest.
He revealed that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Kakching additional SP (Ops) Binoy Chongtham, was responsible for solving the case.
The SIT was further supported by a team under the leadership of Kakching additional SP (LO) Athokpam Romendro.
Jogeshchandra explained that apart from operations in suspected areas the investigation involved tracing the suspect's movements through extensive CCTV footage analysis from various commercial establishments and private homes in Kakching Bazar and nearby areas.
The evidence gathered from these CCTV recordings led to the identification and eventual arrest of Naorem Rome.
Out of the Rs 6,49,920 robbed from the bank, police have recovered Rs 3,03,500 .
They also seized the clothes, shoes, and face mask Rome wore during the robbery, as well as the knife used in the crime.
Additionally, a black laptop bag used to carry the cash and a Honda Activa 5G (MN01AJ 3173), which he used in the bank heist, were also recovered.
The police are continuing investigation to recover the remaining cash and the handgun used during the robbery.
Chipping in, Kakching senior SP Thokchom Vikramjit commended efforts of the SIT and the assisting team for tracking down and apprehending the suspect within a week.
He extended his appreciation to the people of Kakching, especially those who provided CCTV footage, which was instrumental in tracing the suspect.
Vikramjit called for similar cooperation from the public in future investigations to assist the police in solving crimes swiftly.
The press conference was also attended by additional SP (Ops) Binoy Chongtham, additional SP (LO) Kakching Athokpam Romendro, Kakching SDPO Akoijam Premjit, OC Takhelchangbam Rameshwar, Kakching CDO OC Soraisham Bjrla, and Hiyanglam SDC David Laitonjam, representing the district magistrate.
