MLA assures blacktopping of Nongdam-Thoubal

Imphal, December 10 2022: The blacktopping of the road from Nongdam to Thoubal Multipurpose Dam being taken up by the Public Works Department will be completed before Christmas, Andro AC MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar has assured.

On Saturday, MLA Shyamkumar accompanied by engineers of PWD and contractors inspected the ongoing blacktopping work.

Speaking on the sidelines of the trip, the MLA lamented that though the 14 km long road is an important road connecting Lamlai, Saikul, Phungyar, Heirok and Andro constituencies, it remained unrepaired for the last 15 years.

However, under the BJP government, the repair works were undertaken in 2017-18 but suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The works were resumed after pressure from the public and it will be completed soon, he stated and appreciated the CM and the Works minister in this regard.

Shyamkumar further appreciated the local volunteers who extended assistance, including preventing heavy vehicles from passing through.

As the road is situated near the dam, it often suffers damages due to the passage of large trucks carrying heavy machinery and construction materials, which is unavoidable.

Nonetheless, efforts will be made to repair the road to the level of a national highway, he further assured.
