ILDS receives Centre of Excellence accreditation

Institute of Liver and Digestive Sciences (ILDS) has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first institute in the North East zone to receive accreditation as a Centre of Excellence from Olympus.
The accreditation certificate was presented during a ceremony held at ILDS, Kwakeithel, on Friday.
The event was attended by Olympus (India) managing director Naoshio Kikumoto and assistant divisional manager Ryo Nakadegawa.
Speaking on the occasion, ILDS managing director Dr N Surajkumar expressed concern over prevalence of liver and gastrointestinal (GI) cancer in Manipur, surpassing that of any other state in India.
He also highlighted challenges faced by many in accessing treatment for these ailments, leading to fatalities.
Dr Surajkumar said that it has been his aspiration to establish an institute within the state dedicated to effective treatment such conditions.
Today, this dream has materialised with ILDS offering healthcare services equipped with cutting-edge technology, thus fulfilling a crucial need in the region.
Dr Surajkumar further informed that the institute has not only successfully treated patients with liver and GI cancer and related diseases, but also provided training to professionals in this field.
He emphasised that the institute s goal is not only to treat liver and GI cancers effectively but also to spread the message that these types of cancers can be cured if diagnosed early.
He mentioned that Olympus, a Japan-based company, accredits selected hospitals worldwide as Centre of Excellence.
The institute has achieved the distinction of being the first in the North East region to receive this accreditation from Olympus.
Naoshio Kikumoto stated that endoscopic treatment is often perceived as daunting by patients, requiring high expertise and precision.
He praised Dr Suraj as one of the leading experts in this field and highlighted the institute's significant contribution to Olympus's efforts in treating such diseases.
