Financial literacy awareness prog held

District Handloom & Textiles, Imphal West organised a sensitisation cum awareness programme on financial literacy and government schemes for weavers/artisans', at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai on Saturday.
The programme was attended by Directorate of Handlooms & Textiles deputy director (handloom) Thokchom Basanta as chief guest; District Handloom & Textiles, Imphal West project manager L Dasumati Devi as president; while SBI-RSETI Imphal West director Yumkhaibam Debanand; Manipur Rural Bank, Hiyangtgang manager Chongtham Bikramaditya; Weavers Service Centre, Porompat technical superintendent Surendra ,were present as guests of honour.
Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited project extension officer (PEO) Sangita Chanu also attended the programme, along with weavers and artisans from Langthabal and surrounding areas.
In his speech, Thokchom Basanta explained that the aim of programme was to make the weavers and artisans aware about central and state government projects and schemes including Mudra loan, and how to increase their income.
Stating that the target of Mudra loans set by the government in previous years could not be achieved as none of the weavers availed the benefit due to lack of knowledge; he informed that some did apply for Mudra loans at the banks, but the process could not move forward due to absence of requisite documents on part of the applicantions.
Thus,lie urged the attending weavers to try and understand in detail the process for applying Mudra loans during the programme.
Basanta continued the central and state governments have been providing looms, threads and other materials required by weavers, with the marketing undertaken by Manipur Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation.
As such, he urged for collective efforts in identifying and producing products which would be preferred by the masses.
