Imphal, May 21 2023:
While asserting that the move by 10 Kuki MLAs towards creation of separate homeland is unrealisable, socio-political commentator Ch Bijoy said he supports veteran politician 0 Joy's remark that all the MLAs be barred from entering assembly.
Addressing media persons at his Lamphel residence Sunday, Ch Bijoy said Kukis suffered heavy loss in drug business due to crackdown against poppy cultivation under government's 'War on Drugs' that ultimately led to the present crisis.
While terming as totally uncalled for the Kuki MLAs to join the issue and demanding that they penalised for the same, Bijoy claimed to have information about differenc-es among the Kukis as some section of the population averse to the demand while some support the move.
Maintaining that both the greater Nagaland and Kuki homeland demands are un-achievable, he said the sepa-rate administration demand by 10 Kuki MLA is merely a threat and unrealistic.
While asserting that there was error on part of the government with regard to the present crisis, Ch Bijoy said deficiency in holistic and strict administration in the hills is another factor for undermining the estab-lishment.
He contended that absence of punitive steps as per the law against violators of law of the land in the hills is another crucial factor for the backlash from certain community against the 'War on Drugs' campaign.
Bringing peace and nor-malcy under a policy is top-most priority at present and government must chalk out right strategy and tactics to remove all obstacles from NH-37, Ch Bijoy said adding that strict action must be taken against those laying siege on highways.
