Imphal, May 09 2024:
National Research Centre (NRC), Manipur organised lecture cum interaction programme on 'Science as a career' at NRC hall, Canchipur on Thursday.
The programme was attended by DM University former vice chancellor Prof Rajmuhon as chief guest, NRC Manipur president Thongam Ajit as president, MU Department of Zoology Prof N Mohilal as guest of honour and Tohoku University, Japan Phd research scholar on Astrophysics Ronaldo Laishram as special guest.
Speaking at the programme, Thongam Ajit pointed out that everyone is facing serious inconveniences since the conflict broke out in the state on May 3 last year with students the worst affected as they facing hindrances in furthering their education.
The interaction programme with Ronaldo, who is doing PhD in Japan, has been conducted to make sure that students never leave their books despite the conflict.
Laishram Ronaldo, while delivering his talk on 'Science as a career' stated that curiosity is vital to those who want to pursue science.
Recalling his early days when he was curious about bright objects in the evening sky, he said that he could not confirm whether the bright objects were stars or some other celestial objects.
From that day onwards, several questions triggered his minds about the universe.
So, after completing BTech in Computer Science Engineering, he pursued MS in Astronomy and then PhD in Astrophysics to explore the galaxies.
An interaction programme with the students was also conducted followed by release of the NRC's quarterly journal 'Vision' .
