Ukhrul DOA to hold election on Nov 17

Ukhrul, October 26 2022: Ukhrul District Olympic Association (UDOA) has notified the schedule of its election to be held on November 17 to elect new office bearers.

A decision in this regard was taken during a General Body Meeting (GBM) of the Association held at Sam Food Court, Viewland, Ukhrul town on Wednesday.

As resolved during its previous GBM on October 10, the election commission of UDOA tabled the schedule and modalities for conducting election for the office bearers of UDOA for the tenure 2022-2026 and was unanimously approved by the members present, said a press statement issued by UDOA interim president Phungchan Raikhan.

The election will be conducted to elect president, senior vice-president, three vice-presidents, general secretary, five joint secretaries, treasurer and seven executive members on November 17 as per the Memorandum of Association of UDOA, it said.

The statement continued that each sports association will be represented by the president and secretary of their respective disciplines.

Each member is entitled to only one vote and in the absence of president or secretary or both, the association's president/secretary may recommend the members who will represent their association in written addressed to the returning officer of UDOA on or before November 10 .

The criteria set by the election commission of UDOA for candidates intending to contest for the said 19 posts stipulated that the candidates should be a citizen of India, must be a person of sound mind, must have no criminal record and they must attach 'No Objection' certificate from the police station concerned.

The candidate should be a member of any sports discipline recognised by Manipur Olympic Association and his/her association should be registered with the office of Deputy Registrar of Societies, Ukhrul district under the provision of Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, it said, while adding that they must be nominated by their respective association's president and secretary.

The election will be conducted as per the schedule notified by the election commission for which issue of nomination form will start from October 28 and the last date of receiving of nomination form will be till 4 pm of November 2 .

Scrutiny will be done on November 5 and date of withdrawal will be November 8 till 4 pm and the election will commence from 1 pm on November 17, it mentioned.

Nomination forms will be available on payment of Rs 500 and can be collected from the chief election commissioner of UDOA or returning officer of UDOA at UDSA Office, Wino Bazaar, Ukhrul from October 28 onwards during office hours, the statement added.
