Lt Gen AS Pendharkar assumes command of Spear Corps

Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar has taken over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps, succeeding Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi.
Lt Gen Sahi will now serve as commandant of the Army War College, Mhow.
According to a statement issued by PRO, PIB (DW), commissioned into the Assam Regiment in June 1990, Lt Gen Pendharkar is an alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington.
His extensive military education includes the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow, and the NDC Course at the National Defence College, New Delhi.
With a distinguished career spanning over 34 years, Lt Gen Pendharkar has held a variety of command and staff positions across diverse terrains and operational environments, both in India and overseas.
His command experience includes leading an Infantry Battalion, Brigade, and Divisional formations along the Line of Control and in counter in surgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
Additionally, he has served in key staff roles, including a significant tenure in the Military Operations Directorate at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army).
Before assuming his new role as GOC of the Spear Corps, Lt Gen Pendharkar served as the director general of the Territorial Army.
His exemplary service has earned him several accolades, including the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Chief of the Army Staff Commendation, and GOC-in-C Central Command Commendation.
Lt Gen Pendharkar's appointment as the GOC of Spear Corps marks another milestone in his illustrious career, as he continues to contribute to the nation's defence with dedication and distinction, the statement added.
