NCC CO, MUC VC, others call on Governor

NCC Imphal Group Commander Brigadier SR Sharma called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday evening and apprised her of the activities taken up for training NCC cadets in the state.
Brig Sharma highlighted various activities associated with the training of about 7,250 NCC cadets in 15 districts.
With the motto of unity and discipline, NCC has conducted awareness programmes across the state to instil a sense of nationalism and nation building amongst the youth.
The NCC Headquarters in Imphal has to be developed as an Academy for which proposal has already been submitted to the state government through the Education commissioner, he said, while requesting the Governor to extend support in this regard.
The Governor, while appreciating the role of NCC in nation building and social work, said that through NCC, NSS and other such platforms, the sense of nationalism can be developed amongst the youth.
She asked the Group Commander to submit his proposal to the Education minister and assured him of support from her side.
Manipur University of Culture (MUC) vice-chancellor Prof Paonam Gunindro Singh along with advisor Devendra Sharma and two others also called on the Governor and requested her to extend support in establishing a permanent campus of the university.
Prof Gunindro highlighted the activities of the university in nurturing the students by conducting cultural exchange programmes and workshops besides normal classes from the rented campus.
He said that being one of the three cultural universities in the country, MUC has been engaged in exchanging cultural aspects with some foreign universities from Thailand and Bangladesh.
An MoU was signed with a University of Thailand in February last.
As such, he requested the Governor to extend support in the development of a permanent campus of the university with good physical infrastructure.
In response, Governor Anusuiya assured the team of extending her support in the development of a per manent campus of MUC and asked them to submit a proposal for the same.
All Manipur Teli Association secretary Ashok Prasad Sahu along with other members also called on the Governor and submitted a memorandum requesting her support in addressing their grievances.
Sahu informed the Governor about the grievances of Teli community in many aspects of life.
He requested the Governor for extending support for the development of the community.
Governor Anusuiya, while giving a patient hearing, assured them of extending her support in the best interest of the community.
Representatives of Kalyam Ashram led by Jagdamba Mall, Sampark Pramukh along with three other members also met with the Governor on Friday evening at the Raj Bhavan and apprised her of the various activities taken by the Ashram for the betterment of the society.
They highlighted about their initiatives on education, social and cultural awareness, health and sports through programmes of national integration.
The Governor appreciated their commitment towards national integration and betterment of the society.
