Hand Wash Day observed in Chandel

Kakching, October 16 2014: District Water & Sanitation Committee, Chandel District in association with All Private Schools Welfare Association, Chandel District observed the World Hand Wash Day as part of National Sanitation Campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission at different schools in Chandel district today.

During the observance, awareness of the importance of hand washing and demonstration of the eight steps of proper hand wash were shown to 9942 students of 21 Schools located in the district, of which 10 schools are from Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency and 11 schools from Chandel Assembly Constituency.

Apart from the awareness and demonstration programme, essay writing competition on the topic of "Safe Water and Improve Sanitation in School" was conducted besides painting competition at St.

Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Kuraopokpi and Oriental Academy, Japhou.

Later on, a street play was also staged at Japhou Market shed in Chandel District Headquarters by Nokfade Theater Artistes to create awareness about safe drinking water and Sanitation.

While speaking on the sideline of the observance, Jameson Bungdon, District Co-ordinator who is also a Section Officer, Chandel PHE Division said that Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation wanted India to be a developed as well as neat and clean country.

And, he also once told that sanitation is more than independence, said Jameson.

As such, the government of India took up National Sanitation Campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission in accordance with the vision of Mahatma Gandhiji's "Developed, Neat and a Clean Country.

And World Hand Wash Day was observed as a part of the National Sanitation Campaign for proving mass awareness of cleanliness, said Jameson.

The District Co-ordinator further maintained that the easiest and most important steps of maintaining cleanliness is to wash our hands properly as we used our same hands in doing different activities in our daily life.

So, it becomes the most efficient carrier of germs which causes different ailments to our health, he added.

More than 3, 000 peoples dies every day due to drinking unsafe water and eating without proper washing hands.

Therefore, it is very important to know that washing our hands in proper ways can prevent us from different diseases, said Jameson, District co-ordinator.
