PANDM treasures roles of CSOs, donates to homes

Imphal, January 13 2023: People's Action for National Development (PANDM) has stressed on the importance of CSOs in the society on the occasion of its 13th foundation day.

In a statement, PANDM said that CSOs never remain silent but they observe the society and bring out issues to the public platform.

The government cannot suppress the public movement and CSOs as they will always rise against atrocities, flaws in the system and suppression by the government.

Like other CSOs; PANDM has been shouldering these responsibilities for the last 13 years, it said.

The statement also recounted how PANDM took major role in the movement for ILPS and anti-CAA movement with its president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar holding the post of convenor of both JCILPS and MANPAC.

It then demanded the government to frame effective policy and guidelines for ILPS, update NRC with 1951 as the base year for identification of native people before the train service reaches Imphal; It also urged the government to resolve the boundary pillar issue, which has cost vast tract of land of Manipur.

Moreover, the statement urged the government to take up effective measures for controlling prices of essential commodities, ban substance abuse, prevent corrupt practices in government offices including education department.

CSOs will not need to interfere in the functioning of the government if the offices and their officials discharge their duties in a sincere and transparent manner, it added.

PANDM further informed that its members visited two Old Age Homes, one run by Young Women's Help Organisation at Oinam Kangjeibung Mamang, and the other by Kumbi Khullakpam Leikai Women's Association at Kumbi Terakhong Lamlong village, on Thursday and donated aid materials for the inmates on the occasion of its 13th foundation day.

The home at Oinam was found in a poor state as the inmates are managing their livelihood by working manual labours, the statement said while drawing attention of the government.

On the other hand, the old age home at Kumbi was found in a favourable condition with basic infrastructure.

Around 50 male and female inmates are staying in the home and they would require assistance from the government from time to time.

The PANDM statement also called upon the people of the state to take care of their elders, parents and grandparents instead of leaving them in old age homes.
