Consultation on alternative energy held

A day-long consultation programme on Alternative Energy was held at Manipur Press Club here yesterday.
The event was jointly organized by Citizens' Concern for Dam and Development (CCDD), Committee on Protection of Natural Resources in Manipur (CPNRM), United Voluntary Youth Centre (UVYC), All Loktak Lake Fishermen Union Manipur (ALLAFUM), Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Organisation (MDAVO), and Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRAM) .
Dr.RK Ranjan, Chairperson CCDD, Manglem, Director of MANIRADA, Y.Rupachandra, Editor of Impact TV and O Rajen, Secretary of ALLAFUM attended as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, RK Ranjan stated that in order to assess the requirement of alternative energy in Manipur the first thing that needs to be done is to know energy requirement of the State and the existing energy quantum and how it is being managed by the State.
He further said that the management of energy by the private agency in Manipur should be done transparently.
He argued that alternative energy which is reliable and convenient should be encouraged.
.YRupachandra lamented that due to increasing population and limitless human desires, there has been energy crisis and this crisis can be solved with the intervention not only by the public but also by the Government and decision makers.
Manglem spoke on the uses and the limitation of solar, wind and Micro-Hydel energy.
