Health camp for pregnant women conducted

District Health Society, Chandel organised 'Meeronbisingi Khudol', a one-day health camp for pregnant women under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan extended programme at Saibol Joupi Health and Wellness Centre in Chandel district on Saturday.
General medicine, paediatric and gynaecology doctors conducted routine medical check-up for infants and pregnant women during the programme.
Out of 33 pregnant women screened, 11 were found to be in high risk group.
Speaking on the occasion, National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur state nodal officer for maternal health Dr Mina Seram explained about Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan and its benefits being provided across the state.
So far, 23 such programmes have been organised in remote areas of the state including Saibol Joupi and similar programmes will be conducted in the coming days.
Institutional delivery will also be facilitated during the programme, she said, while adding that the ministry had recognised the efforts and honoured the NHM Manipur with presentation of awards.
She also informed that the programme, which was conducted once in a month, will be increased to twice from now on while adding that the programme is providing healthcare services to pregnant women in remote areas, who don't have the opportunity to consult doctors during their entire term of pregnancy.
CMO Chandel Dr Serthani Serbum said that villages under Khengjoi Block are bereft of basic healthcare facilities.
Khengjoy PHC, which was commissioned in 2011, does not have a single doctor till date.
The CMO further stressed on the need to make Khengjoy PHC fully functional and establish a PHC in Saibol Joupi area to provide primary healthcare services to the people of the surrounding areas and drew attention of the authority in this regard.
