Seven arrested, search ops continue

Imphal, July 21 2024:
At least seven persons belonging to different armed outfits were arrested from separate locations on Sunday.
According to a police report, a team of Bishnupur district commandos arrested two members of the armed KCP (Politburo Standing Committee) from Meitram Mayai Leikai under Nambol police station around 3.40pm Sunday.
The two have been identified as Ayekpam Chingkhu Meitei (28) s/o (L) Shyam Meitei of Lamdeng Khunou and Chandam Devajit Singh (19) s/o Gunajit of Meitram Mayai Leikai.
The team recovered Rs 13,500 in cash, one Aadhaar card, three mobile phones and a Maruti Gypsy vehicle, which along with duo have been handed over to Nambol PS for further legal action.
Another team of Imphal West district police arrested three cadres of KCP (Taibanganba) around 7.10 pm Sunday from Pishumthong Oinam Leikai and Ningombam Leirak.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Soisenba Oinam alias Ito (22) s/o (L) Suresh Oinam and Lourembam Chingkheinganba (21) s/o L Jugin of Pishumthong Oinam Leikai, and Ningombam Jerit (23) s/o N Open of Pishumthong Ningombam Leirak.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Tengnoupal district police and 5 Assam Rifles arrested two cadres of the banned KYKL from near Border Pillar No 80 around 4.30 am Sunday.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Samurailatpam Devo Sharma alias Keng-ba (23) s/o (L) S Devadatta Sharma of Meitram Makha Leikai and Taorem Yuhenba Singh alias Loyd (23) s/o T Ranjit Singh of Keirao Makha Leikai.
On the other hand, a joint team of Jiribam district police, D-20 CRPF and A-155 CRPF conducted area domination in Narayanpur area under Borobekra PS from 3.30 pm till 4.45 pm Sunday.
Another combined team of Kakching district police and 126 Battalion BSF A-Coy carried out a search operation in Langmeidong Mamang Leikai from 6.10 am till 7.30 am Sunday.
In all, 75 houses were searched and 195 people verified.
A joint team of Imphal West district police and F-152 CRPF conducted a search operation in Khonghampat Khunou from 7am till 8.30am Sunday.
In all, 50 houses were searched and 170 people verified.
However, no arrests or recovery of weapons were reported during the search operations.
